The future

The first hurdle has been overcome with the recognition by the Swiss Kennel Club (SKG). The Continental Bulldog will eventually if and when recognized by the Fédération Cynologique International (FCI) become officially a breed of Swiss origin.

However, this will take time and generate an immense amount of work. For obvious reasons the rules set by FCI are very strict. Eight individual and separate blood lines are required of which three ancestor generations may not be related in any way and following three generations of the subsequent stocks may not be mixed among the eight blood lines. This of course entails a large number of dogs in order to fulfil this provision.

It will also be necessary that a number of new breeders of the Continental Bulldog can be established soon as the Pickwick Kennel could by no means handle the above mentioned requirements all by itself. We hope to be able to publish relevant news in the near future.

In any case, it is most exciting and gives much pleasure to assist in the creation of a new breed and the committee of the club is very enthusiastic to meet this great challenge. The many positive reactions upon the official recognition by the Swiss Kennel Club is very encouraging for everybody involved in this work but provides especially for Imelda Angehrn the necessary confidence to carry on with her big task and the high responsibility it demands.
